PAULA STERN
I have loved the Impressionists since I first discovered them as a teenager.
That exposure started a lifelong fascination with light and the ways in which
color creates form and a sense of illumination in ways that seem magical
and that capture the viewer. However, it wasn't until I retired from a career
as a mediator and counselor, that I began to explore the possibilities of
experimenting with paint and canvas myself. Although I started painting
with watercolor and a very small brush and then moved to portraits in oil, it
wasn't until I discovered the large palette knife that I felt something creative
happening. Now some of my happiest times are at the easel as I try to
capture the wonderful light in New Mexico.
