GENIE GRAY
At the age of 10 and in Girl Scouts, I had just gotten my badge in “Dabbling” and decided I wanted to be a Dabbler when I grew up. After dabbling with various crafts for a few years, I began experimenting with oil paints. My art was put on the back burner for 13 years due to starting a business that I actively managed. After deciding I didn’t want to deal with employees any longer, I closed the business and went back to college to earned my BA in Art. At that time, I chose to teach art instead of going for a Masters. In 2012, I retired from teaching but kept on dabbling in various art mediums, not really having a favorite. The majority of my paintings are of places that I’ve been and of which I have fond memories. Finally, when I realized I didn’t have enough wall space to continue producing large oil/acrylic paintings, I decided to learn about watercolors and took several lessons with an award-winning artist. Five years ago, I began facilitating the watercolor studio at the Highland Senior Center that I enjoy greatly and keeps me actively painting. My current goal is to do more plein air painting around the state. You can contact Genie at [email protected]
