Pat ryan: May 1941-November 2007

Picture
Pat was the cartoonist for The Pastel Journal and New Mexico Woman, a puppeteer, Media Therapist, writer, Window Display Artist for Neimann Marcus in Chicago and later in Albuquerque for Bound to be Read and Caardvark. Her Folk Art is familiar to folks across Albuquerque.

Most of us knew Pat through Rainbow Artists. She worked for years on the
Exhibition Committee, made numerous invitations, flyers, signs for the group. Whatever theme Rainbow came up with for a show, Pat would create the perfect work of art for that theme. She never hesitated to help other artists with their projects - making helpful suggestions to guide them through a problem.

She was involved in public art. At the Albuquerque Downtown library she designed permanent frames for revolving children’s art exhibits. She built such an accurate scale model that Rainbow Artists were invited to do the installation.  She designed another wall for the Wyoming branch library. When the New Mexico Museum of Natural History handed out giant dinosaurs to be painted, Pat enthusiastically painted three which she titled Dinersor, Sailorsaurus and Pastasaurus for which he received an award.

Pat lost her battle with cancer as she lived her life, with love and dignity.
