ANNA-LENA TOLEDO

Picture
After a number of years of classical training in drawing and painting, I
found myself  in such a panic in classes I consistently had to drop out.  The block to
creativity seemed insurmountable.  What joy I had originally found as a girl had
been bankrupted.  For years, I felt lucky to have a single drawing session which
produced a drawing.  While I was acquainted with process painting it wasn't until
2014 that I began working with a local process painting teacher.  Abandoning all
aesthetic sensibilities in favor of process, I rediscovered a freedom and aliveness in
painting.  I began a home practice and began to marry what I understood as my
process painter with my classic training.  Allowing myself to flow with the non-
verbal and intuitive, the unprohibited, the energetic charge either negative or
positive, has been a rewarding exploration of interior landscapes in a way that
illustrating exterior landscapes cannot equal for me.  Mysteries are posed and only
sometimes revealed along the way.  I honor that the viewer's experience and
interpretations are equally valid and valuable as my own.
