MARIE BARON
I grew up in a small village in the beautiful, lush countryside of Belgium. Even as a child, paintings held a strong fascination for me and I believed I could teach myself to paint. I went to art school to study art history, another fascinating subject. Later on, practical considerations took priority and I attended the University of Texas at Austin. Afterwards I received a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
After ten years of designing fashions, I moved to the countryside of Pennsylvania. I started working in clay, designing and making decorative ceramic tiles for the home. After twenty years, I closed my small business and moved to Albuquerque.
I made dresses, hats, sculptures, jewelry and pottery which I sold at craft fairs. Eventually, I found myself immersed in painting and have never looked back. Using oil paint, I paint every day. Starting with landscapes, I then shifted to portraits. Combining both is a lot of fun too. I love to experiment, show my work, connecting with people and other artists. Painting brings me joy and happiness.
