Shirley Fears-Wynn - November-December 2003

I discovered the magic of creating art late in life. It occurred with my very first serious attempt at drawing some kind of a picture. At some point in the process, the image I was creating seemed to take on a life of its own. It became for me a living, breathing thing that allowed me to articulate my emotions and opinions much better than in words. That was the magic for me. From that moment on, I was hooked.  Now, every time I start a new work, I expect that magic to happen again. I use various combinations of charcoal, pastels, oil pastels, colored pencil and paint combined with three dimensional elements such as metal mesh, wood, wire and shells to help me achieve the magic I want to experience in my work.
