Barbara King

BKing03

Barbara's art education began in the San Francisco Bay area and continues in her native New Mexico. She was a potter and cofounder of Alameda Pottery in Alameda, California. After returning to NM she began studying painting and credits Howard and Evelyn McConeghey and Peggy Height-Robb as mentors.

"I prefer to work in an emotionally direct and intuitive way. Each painting has its own journey; some take totally unexpected turns, not unlike the Raku process in pottery. Occasionally I get a complete image but usually it is a process of problem solving. I like texture and layering. Sometimes portions of layers show through or collaged pieces suggesting different perspectives or realities."
