"My philosophy is simple, it is to continue to create in my chosen form, all that my life experience has brought me to. My work reflects a heritage as diverse as a great- grandmother who was a slave in Virginia to an Irish grandfather. It is ever changing and brings me great joy.

"I am a gatherer - a woman who finds images awaiting rebirth through rocks, found wood, wire, fabric. Even as a child growing up in the woods of Long Island I was fascinated with found objects, arranging these treasures in boxes which evolved to back-lit boxes, often containing forms. My interest in figures continued throughout the evolution of my art form, appearing in quilts, collages, prints and paintings. Now my figures have become the art form itself."

Born in New York Cit5y in 1919, Mari was for forty years a resident of Queens. There she became an accomplished and recognized artist. In August of 1988 Mari moved her home and studio to Albuquerque
